What We Do
EthioForex aggregates real-time foreign exchange rates from all major Ethiopian commercial banks, including the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), Awash Bank, Dashen Bank, Bank of Abyssinia, and over a dozen other licensed institutions. Our platform gives users a single, comprehensive view of the entire Ethiopian forex market.
We track both cash rates — the rates applied when you physically exchange banknotes at a bank counter — and transaction rates, which apply to wire transfers, letters of credit, and electronic payments. This distinction matters: the rates can differ, and knowing which applies to your transaction helps you plan accurately.
Beyond current rates, EthioForex provides historical rate charts, allowing users to identify trends in how the Ethiopian Birr has moved against major currencies over time. This is particularly valuable for importers, exporters, and businesses managing recurring foreign currency exposure.

How We Source Our Data
Exchange rate data on EthioForex is sourced directly from Ethiopian commercial banks and updated throughout each business day. We do not use estimated or modeled rates — every rate you see reflects what a real bank is quoting to real customers.
Our data pipeline monitors bank forex counters and official bank publications, and stores rates in a structured database that powers our dashboard, comparison tools, and API. Historical data is preserved so that users can see how rates have evolved over time.
We are committed to transparency: if a rate has not been updated recently, we indicate when it was last refreshed so you always know how current the information is.
Developer API
EthioForex provides a structured API for developers, fintech applications, and businesses that need programmatic access to Ethiopian forex data. Our API powers the official EthioForex mobile app and is used by third-party applications across the region.
